What I Wore in Gran Canaria: Fashionable One-Piece By The Pool

Hello lovelies,

Back at it again with my third entry to my ‘What I Wore In Gran Canaria” series! In this post, I show what I wore by the pool. which is always the most exciting aspect of going abroad for me.

Over the past year, I’ve been seeing a lot of bright coloured one-pieces all over Instagram. I have been obsessed trying to recreate this trend but had problems finding ones in stores that were inexpensive.  However, I was pleasantly surprised when I found swimsuits in Primark at an absolute bargain – 4 pound each! I almost decided to take the plunge and buy one in every colour. Though I decided it was probably best if I stuck to two, buying one in red (Baywatch style) and another in blue, knowing it wasn’t hurting the bank.

Considering I haven’t worn a one-piece since I was a kid, I was concerned I might look childlike in a sea of grown women in ‘adult appropriate’ swimwear. I was even more concerned because I decided I couldn’t leave Primark without an inflatable pink flamingo, knowing that I was staying in a hotel that is specifically for adults only. I won’t lie – I did receive funny looks. I’d like to think it’s because the high cut of the swimsuit and the low back made the piece a little sexier, but truly, I’ll never know.

In terms of practicality, I did not expect very much at such a low cost. I chose a size 10 but perhaps could have gone a size down because the straps kept falling down, leaving me exposed on occasion. This I did not mind so much as it really only was intended for fashionable wear, a splash in the water, and not for swimming lanes. The fabric, of course, does not offer much support but again, this is something that isn’t a requirement for me. The only issue is the fabric can become thin which does not conceal nipples all that well but, if you’re a bit of a feminist/ #freethenip advocate like me then let them reign in all their glory.

How are you spending this summer?
